CRA (Canada Revenue Agency)
The federal tax authority that administers income tax, GST/HST, and registered accounts.
The CRA collects income tax, processes returns, runs the TFSA, RRSP, FHSA, and RESP rule sets, pays out benefits like the Canada Child Benefit and the GST credit, and audits taxpayers. Tax-filing deadline is April 30 for most people (June 15 for self-employed, but tax owing is still due April 30). My Account on the CRA site shows your TFSA and RRSP contribution room (with a caveat that it can lag your actual contributions by a few months, do not rely on it for late-December top-ups). Provincial tax is also administered by the CRA except in Quebec, where Revenu Quebec runs its own return.
A 60-second lesson that puts this term in context, alongside the others, lives inside the Finlo app.
